Where a project specification cites an older edition, the owner and engineer should resolve whether the contract, local adoption or current practice controls before the supplier freezes design documents.

During procurement, separate a standard’s rating envelope from its construction clauses, test requirements and application limits so a familiar number on a datasheet is not mistaken for complete conformity.

Before shipment, check that approved drawings, nameplates, test reports and certificates all identify the same unit, because generic family evidence may not prove the exact configuration purchased.
